Chilton County EMA

Chilton County EMA (CCEMA) is the coordinating agency for all disaster situations in Chilton County, Alabama. Founded over 50 years ago, it helps prepare the county for emergencies and disasters, both natural and man-made, by working together with local volunteers and businesses. The agency's objective is to coordinate resources to minimize and manage emergencies. When serious conditions occur in the community, the Chilton County EMA promptly responds to emergencies and disasters.

The agency has a long standing history of caring for the people of Chilton County, and for being there in times of trouble to assist citizens. CCEMA takes pride in efforts to uphold the motto: "Always Ready." They are ready to respond throughout each crisis whether it may be tornados, winter storms, major fires, drought, or hazardous materials release. Chilton County EMA depends primarily on a small staff along with many volunteers to achieve its goals.

At other times, The Chilton County EMA works to promote disaster preparedness, build community strength and deliver public education, training and volunteer opportunities focused on community and family safety. Some of CCEMA's special projects include: outdoor warning sirens, tornado shelters, public awareness, and 911 certification and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes.

In May 2004, Chilton County EMA established its own Citizen Corps Council. The Council is part of The Department of Homeland Security's nationwide grassroots movement to keep America safe and to actively involve everyone in making our communities safer, stronger and better prepared for all types of disaster or emergency. The Council encourages citizens to participate in community through volunteerism and training focused on keeping the county safe. To do this, the agency encourages personal responsibilities like having disaster preparedness plans and supply kits, promoting home health and safety practices, reporting crime and aiding in crime prevention and having disaster mitigation measures in place.

Chilton County's Citizen Corps Council plans to participate in the National Neighborhood Watch Program (formerly USA on Watch). This program enables citizens to help in the fight against crime and provides an opportunity for communities to bond through service. It also serves as a portal for training to assist law enforcement agencies in the field.

Georgia Department of Transportation

The GA Department of Transportation's role is to plan, construct and maintain Georgia's transportation network, which encompasses:

  • 17,907 State Highway System miles
  • 87,462 County Road miles and
  • 19,472 City Street miles that support 215 million vehicle miles traveled each year in GA.
  • It also includes 16 Urban Transit Programs and 111 Rural Transit programs that carry more than 152 million bus riders annually and
  • 104 Airports that support more than 47 million commercial passengers annually.

The innovative use of leading-edge technologies is the foundation of GDOT's approach to transportation Leadership. Today, an Emergency Operations Center application, called the "WebEOC," provides real-time information to support daily GDOT operations and enables fast and effective response to emergencies across this huge transportation system.

The WebEOC app pulls together information and, when paired with Southern Linc's Wireless Communications Network, creates a robust information and communications system for GDOT teams.

Georgia's economy is dynamic, and its competitiveness in the world market is dependent upon the efficient movement of goods and people throughout the state. Today, approximately 640 million tons of goods travel by truck each year through Georgia with 35% of that tonnage having an origin and destination inside the state. And, as the state's population and employment grows, it is the Georgia Department of Transportation's mission to effectively manage congestion, particularly in the Atlanta region.

In short, all businesses need Georgia's transportation network to provide safe, reliable travel for goods and people. GDOT is focused on meeting current and future transportation needs by using technology and working with reliable communications partners like Southern Linc.

Transportation Management Center, Georgia Department of Transportation

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the Transportation Management Center (TMC) is the headquarters and information clearinghouse for NaviGAtor - Georgia's Intelligent Transportation System. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the TMC is committed to enhancing travel safety and transportation efficiency by managing incidents, controlling traffic, and providing accurate information to the traveling public.

The TMS is the nerve center of GDOT communications, using Southern Linc for its primary dispatch service. The TMC dispatches HERO units, maintenance division personnel, traffic signal crews and bridge personnel. Operators talk live with 511 callers about issues and concerns and they coordinate information with 911 and other state and county agencies.

Maintenance Division, Georgia Department of Transportation

The GA Department of Transportation's Maintenance Division coordinates all statewide maintenance activities such as bridge and sign maintenance, landscaping the Wildflower Program, roadway striping, routine maintenance of state highway system, emergency response (both roadway and weather induced) and the Adopt-a-Highway Program. The division also develops contract documents for maintenance projects.

Southern Linc plays a key role in communications for the Office of Equipment Management within the division. All new vehicles placed into GDOT's maintenance fleet are equipped with a Southern Linc handset. Many have enhanced installations under the hood or inside the cab that enable increased audibility and hands-free operation.

Mid Georgia Ambulance

Mid Georgia Ambulance (MGA) began serving the citizens of Georgia over 35 years ago. Founded in Macon, MGA now provides services in eleven counties across the state. Employing over 300 EMS Professionals, MGA provides emergency medical transport services, non-emergency transport services, neo-natal transport, special event coverage and community CPR training.

For decades, Mid Georgia Ambulance has been a leader in EMS. Unlike many emergency services, MGA is centrally dispatched. Their Central Medical Emergency Dispatch (CMED) center in Macon houses the technology and the staff to respond to emergencies all over the state of Georgia. MGA Dispatchers are trained through the National Academy of Emergency Dispatchers and are trained to use the Emergency Medical Dispatch, or "EMD" pre-arrival instructions. The EMD system allows dispatchers to begin assessing each patient over the phone, while dispatching an ambulance to the scene of the call. MGA allows no lapse in care for patients. Each patient is cared for from the time he/she contacts our dispatch center until the time our medics release the patient to a receiving facility or hospital.

MGA has been ranked among the top ambulance services in the nation, receiving accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services. MGA is one of the few CAAS accredited agencies in the state of Georgia.
