SouthernLINC Wireless Vice President Named Chairman of International iDEN™ Operators Forum
ATLANTA – August 28, 2006 – Rodney Johnson, vice
president, sales and distribution for SouthernLINC Wireless®,
a Southern Company (NYSE: SO), was appointed to chairman of
the International iDEN Operators Forum (IiOF). The announcement
was made during the group’s annual meeting, which was
held on June 28 in Amman, Jordan.
Johnson will serve as chairman for a one-year period. During
this time, he will work closely with Motorola to address common
member needs with respect to the company’s iDEN (Integrated
Digital Enhanced Network) technology.
“Representing this prestigious group of industry-leading
professionals is a great honor,” said Johnson. “SouthernLINC
Wireless’s handsets are all iDEN-based, which is why
it is important for us to be involved with IiOF.”
Several wireless carriers utilizing Motorola’s iDEN
technology, such as SouthernLINC Wireless, established the
IiOF in 2005. The countries represented by these wireless
carriers are: China, El Salvador, Guam, Israel, Jordan, Philippines,
Saudi Arabia, South Korea and the United States of America.
The IiOF member companies collectively serve more than one
million subscribers.

best practices with each other,” Johnson added.
First introduced in 1994, Motorola's iDEN infrastructure
provides wireless solutions designed for a variety of mobile
